#1 BIENVENIDO, WELCOME TO THE BASS

The Welcome Wall (2015), at once emphasizes the global connectedness of humanity as well as discussions about fractured or erased communities, and the civic role of our institution. Pose with your group in front of the Welcome Wall pointing to the languages you understand/speak.

#2 LOOK MA! I'M IN A COMMERCIAL

Film your group saying “Welcome to The Bass!” in front of the Welcome Wall OR The Bass building!

#3 LIFE IN COLOR

List the five different colors you see on the LED signs you see on the Welcome Wall.

#4 MATCHMAKER MATCHMAKER

Find an item that matches the color of one of the LED signs, it can be what you’re wearing, something in your purse/pockets, or on your cell phone! Take a picture with the item in front of the Welcome Wall.

#5 NUMB3R5

Edouard Duval-Carrie hid three numbers on the frame of one of his works. . . list the three numbers!
Hint: Edouard Duval-Carrie has several works in the exhibition, the work you’re looking for is titled Milocan ou La Migration des Espirits, La Traversee, panel #2 of Milocan Series (1996)

#6 MANDALA MADNESS

Locate and find Sanford Biggers work, Poteau Mitan (2002). Work as a team to arrange your hands and/or feet around the center of the work and create your very own mandala! Snap a picture as proof and move on to your next challenge!

#7 MOTHER OF DRAGONS

Locate the Imaculata (18th Century),sculpture and capture a photo of a team member pointing to the creature the piece is standing on. Don’t worry . . . it won’t bite!

#8 ALICE IN... VENETIAN CRYSTAL?

(WARNING: Some body parts appear in their natural state) No, it's not Alice in Wonderland - It’s Alice (2006) made from Venetian Crystal and other found objects by Pascale Marthine Tayou. This Poupée Pascale is located on top of a crate in the center of The Paresky and Gould Family Gallery. Walk to Pascale Marthine Tayou’s sculpture titled, Alice and list 3 found objects on this figure.
Hint: The QR code will help you discover what materials were used to create this piece.

#9 BUT FIRST... LET ME TAKE A SELFIE

Open Storage comprises contemporary works of varying media, spanning from the early fourteenth century to 2020. Find one of the oldest sculptures on display, a work that was made in the 14th Century, and carefully take a selfie in front of it with your team!
Hint: The fourteenth century was from January 1, 1301 – December 31, 1400. The piece you are looking for is a sculpture.

#10 EL MACHETE

Although the fierce young woman pictured in this work is no Amazon Queen, she plays one in her overgrown Florida yard, and while this fantasy cannot be reality, her highly charged desire to will freedom and power into existence may just be sufficient for her in a world where women frequently feel disempowered, undermined, and isolated. Find the artwork with a woman wielding a machete up high and take a picture in front with a similar pose!

#11 GREAT, NOW I"M HUNGRY

This panel depicts the Virgin enthroned in a landscape with the Christ Child in her lap. An angel on the right offers a treat, a symbol of the Eucharist, to the Christ Child. In Marcellus Coffermans, The Holy Family with Angel (c. 1600), what fruit is the infant (Christ Child) attempting to grab?

#12 *BEYONCE VOICE* HALO

The 15th Century piece titled Retable (15th Century), gifted from John and Johana Bass, depicts a number of bishops and saints on a panel painted with tempera. How many halo’s can you see painted on the piece?

Locate a large abstract painting by Sarah Morris that resembles an origami diagram. What is the full title of the painting?

#14 CAMPFIRE SONGS

Sterling Ruby’s Monument Stalagmite/Tried & Trode! (2009) appears to the viewer as an abstract version of the geological cave formation it is named for. Gather your team by the piece and video the group performing a patriotic campfire song.

Hint: Yankee Doodle is always a fun one!

#15 CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES - COME ON!

Celebrate and showcase the first recipient of Oolite Arts’ Michael Richards Award, Edouard Duval-Carriéa, and his new work titled King Henri and Haiti’s Royal Court (2019). Capture a photo standing in between both works pointing up at his name!

Hint: His work is presented alongside the to-scale drawing that served as the basis for the work, inside the museum by our Creativity Center entrance. You should be able to spot if from the Courtyard's glass windows.

Select a piece from the Willfulness of Objects exhibition and video your team saying “It’s alive!”, while another team member walks across the camera like Frankenstein.

Locate Certh Wyn Evans’ piece, have a team member stand by the chandelier and hop every-time it lights. Do this for 15 seconds and submit the video!

Hint: Utilize the wall text to assist with discovering what the morse code is saying.

#27 SPIN SPIN SUGAR

Locate the kinetic sculpture titled Gummo VI (2019) by Laura Favaretto. Film a team member spinning in front of the piece (Boomerang clips count as well). Be careful not to touch the piece, or get dizzy!

#28 COOL PEOPLE DON’T LOOK AT EXPLOSIONS

Become the hero in an action film and walk away from an explosion by visiting Tracey Moffatt’s Montages: Doomed (2007). Film a teammate walking away from an explosion on the large screen. Be sure to make it fun and cinematic!

Art Outside

#29 SWEET WATER

This large-scale sculptural installation by Abraham Cruzvillegas features over 1,000 native plants, fauna and minerals to form a planted environment in front of the museum. What is the title of this installation?

#30 A PERFECT PLACE

José Bedia's sculpture A Perfect Place has moved him to explore the world in search of spiritual and historical histories, creating works characterized by the mix of "storytelling" as an artistic and cultural pilgrim. Find the perfect spot under the piece and pose with your team.

#31 NORTH EAST SOUTH WEST

Full of symbolism intrinsic to his rural Cuban roots, Carlos Luna's highly decorative and powerful sculpture War Giro tells a beautiful and tragic tale exhibiting the anger, sorrow, passion and hope shared by many people in Cuba. Identify if the sculpture is pointing towards Cuba or Downtown Miami.

#32 HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS

Capture a picture of a team member in front of Carlos Luna's War Giro, imitating the sculptures stance, pointing towards your hometown.

#33 BRUNELLO'S GOT TALENT

With Too Much I Once Lamented (2019), Susan Philipsz sings her own rendition of the 1622 madrigal song by Welsh composer Thomas Tomkins. Walk over where the sound of Too Much I Once Lamented is loudest and create your own catchy tune/lyric or dance to accompany the work. Record yourselves performing along with the piece.

#34 CHECK MATE

Jim Drain produced Chess Tables (2014), which consists of two chess tables and four chairs. Put on your game face and snap a picture while competing with your teammates at the Chess Tables (no need to touch the table/pieces to earn a point).

#35 YOGA-T TO TRY HARDER

Did you know Collins Park often hosts a number of events and concerts - including yoga classes! Capture a photo of your team members holding a yoga pose in front of Sylvie Fleury's artwork, Eternity Now (2015).

#36 TOWER OF PISA

Look for the tallest sculpture in Collins Park, Miami Mountain (2016) by Ugo Rondinone. Have a team member pose as if it were the “Tower of Pisa” and you were trying to hold it up!
Pro- Tip: Walk away from the piece and lower your camera closer to the ground to create this illusion!

#37 COLORS OF THE MOUNTAIN

When looking at Ugo Rondinone’s Miami Mountain, list the order of colors of the rocks from top to bottom.

#38 HANG ON NOW

It’s a bird, it’s a plane - No it’s Karen Rifas’ artwork, Hang in There (2020)! Capture your team pointing up to one of the pieces by Rifas in Collins Park.

#39 NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM

Oh no! Your team got locked in the museum after business hours! Which exhibition space would you want to be locked in? How would your team spend the night alone trapped in the museum? Snap a picture of where you’d hang out the most, and what you’d be doing. Remember not to touch the artwork!

Don’t forget to sanitize your hands! Help The Bass ensure everyone's safety by sanitizing your hands regularly. Video your team sanitizing your hands at one of our hand sanitation stations while singing a song about water/rain! Hint: Our hand sanitation stations are located at the front desk, by the elevators OR you can use your own!

#43 GUESS THE LANGUAGE

Find the sign “Valkommen” in Pascale Marthine Tayou’s Welcome Wall (2015). What is this language? What is it saying?

#44 THE COUNT

Karen Rifas’ artwork, Hang in There (2020) employs densely hued shapes and irregular lines on banners surrounding Collins Park, playing with the malleability of perception in creating serialized spaces that oscillate between the two and three dimensional. How many banners can you spot in Collins park?

#45 THE ART OF PHOTOBOMBING

Capture a video of your teammate photobombing another team's picture. You have to be quick, and have your team's photographer capture the moment with video! Remember to keep a safe distance, we suggest completing this challenge while outside.
